The hit musical, 42nd Street, will be dancing and singing its way onto the Sunrise screen, Sunday, June 9 at 7 p.m. and Thursday, June 13 at 10 a.m.

Filmed on the London stage, 42nd Street is an American dream fable about making it big on Broadway. It’s a musical dance spectacular and a great show for the entire family. Iconic hit songs include “We’re in The Money”, “Lullaby of Broadway”, “Shuffle Off to Buffalo”, “Dames”, and “I Only Have Eyes for You”.

Special pre-show bonus features will be included in the Thursday morning performance. Ellen Burke, local arts and entertainment lecturer, will provide some fascinating and little-known, behind-the-scenes facts about the musical.

Her remarks are guaranteed to enhance the way viewers watch the show and add a whole new perspective. Then a dozen incredibly talented local young dancers from Gary Taylor Dance will wow the audience with their tapping skills as they perform “The Audition”, the opening number of 42nd Street live on the Sunrise stage.

The 42nd Street story-line follows young Peggy Sawyer, fresh off the bus from small-town America and just another face in the chorus line on Broadway’s newest show. But when the leading lady gets injured, Peggy might just have the shot at stardom she’s always dreamed of.

Based on the 1933 film of the same name, 42nd Street is one of the few great films to translate successfully to the stage. The show opened on Broadway in 1980, winning the Tony Award for Best Musical and Best Choreography and in London’s West End in 1984, when it won the Olivier Award for Best New Musical.

The 2001 Broadway revival then won the Tony for Best Revival.
