AC Sandhills (ACS) named two accomplished soccer coaches with international playing experience to interim soccer leadership positions Thursday.

Julio Penalillo, who has served as ACS Technical Director since 2015, is now the interim Director of Soccer. He will direct all facets of ACS soccer while the club’s board of directors conducts a search for a permanent Director of Soccer.

A former Peruvian National Team player who holds a national C license, Penalillo enjoyed a stellar professional career spanning from 1994 to 2002 with stops in Peru, Chile and Canada. His coaching stints include Capital Area Soccer League (CASL) Virginia and the Richmond Strikers Soccer Club.

“Julio’s work over the past three years in our academy has been phenomenal,” said Michael Martin, ACS President. “He is a natural leader.”

On Monday, Godfrey Miller joins AC Sandhills as interim Director of Classic Soccer. The former Liberian National team member played in World Cup qualifying matches, and he was captain and 2000 graduate of Saint Augustine College (Raleigh). Miller has a Masters in Coaching and Athletic Administration. He played internationally from 2001 to 2006 with stops in Germany, United Arab Emirates and Vietnam.

Miller’s coaching credentials include N.C. State University (2007-08 men’s assistant), Wake Technical Community College (first men’s head coach, 2008-2011) and University of Mount Olive (Division II, 2011-2015). He was most recently Director of Coaching at Wake FC in Raleigh.

“Godfrey is respected in North Carolina soccer coaching circles,” Martin said. “His passion is infectious. When he speaks, athletes listen and learn.”
