Sunrise Theater’s First Friday community concert series continues with Asheville’s hottest band, Fireside Collective on September 6.

The band is a quintet who cheerfully disregards every kind of one-dimensional label that might be attached to their music. Opening the concert is Them, an NC-based rockabilly/honkytonk band with eclectic influences.

Fireside Collective has been on a roll since emerging five years ago from the fertile music scene of Asheville and just signed a record deal with a premier bluegrass record label.

Blending the characteristic interplay of bluegrass instrumentation and harmonies with strong original material and exuberant energy, Fireside Collective has drawn on folk, blues, funk and a wide variety of bluegrass sounds to create a distinctive body of work that’s all their own.

Each member—Joe Cicero (guitar); Alex Genova (banjo); Jesse Iaquinto (mandolin); Tommy Maher (resonator guitar) and Carson White (upright bass)—brings a strong, original voice to his instrument, and the unique contributions of different lead and harmony vocalists complement the variety in the group’s many original songs.

Sunrise First Friday concerts are possible due to the support of the series sponsor, Realty World Properties of the Pines and the September sponsor, Pinehurst Surgical Women’s Care Center.

September food trucks are Market Place and Gonza.

First Friday concerts are always free and open to the entire community from 5-8 pm at the Sunrise Theater. Bands perform on the First Bank Stage at Sunrise Square and move inside the Sunrise Theater if it storms. Be sure to bring your ID as everyone is carded for alcohol purchases – but leave your coolers and dogs at home.
