Rescue crews found a kayaker who went missing in High Falls Saturday.

Kevin Ussery was found alive several hours after he went missing in Deep River.

A command post had been established for the search and rescue mission.

Ussery and three others were kayaking on Deep River late Saturday when the three others overturned their kayaks, according to Frank Staples with Cypress Pointe Fire & Rescue. Ussery was trying to locate the kayaks and pull them to shore when he went missing.

The three kayakers swam to shore and called 911.

Cypress Pointe Fire & Rescue had been called in with swift rescue units to assist authorities in the search. 

Carthage Fire was stationed on a lower bridge trying to spot the kayaker downstream.

High Falls Fire & Rescue, Robbins Fire & Rescue, Carthage Fire and Rescue, Moore County EMS, Moore County Public Safety were also on scene. The NC Highway Patrol was contacted for a helicopter to aid in the search.

The pilot spotted the victim shortly after midnight who may have suffered hypothermia but no serious injuries.
