A Southern Pines woman is facing DWI charges after crashing her vehicle into a power pole Saturday night. The single vehicle crash occurred shortly after 10 p.m. on Indiana Avenue, one block east of May Street.

According to a Southern Pines Police accident report, Brynne Ashlyn Burlingame, 22, struck the right side curb and hit a mailbox. When the car came back on the road, the driver over corrected and struck a power pole causing the vehicle to overturn onto its side.

When crews arrived on the scene, they found Burlingame still in the vehicle. Firefighters removed the front windshield to gain access to the driver. She was assisted out of the vehicle and appeared to be uninjured.

Southern Pines Police were observed administering a roadside sobriety test and  placing the driver in handcuffs. According to the accident report, Burlingame was charged with a DWI.

Both lanes of Indiana were shut down while emergency crews worked. 

Responding to the scene were Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and Southern Pines Police Department.
