Three people were injured, including two children, in a car accident in Aberdeen Tuesday afternoon.

The accident occurred at the intersection of U.S. Highway 1 and Magnolia Drive, near Hardee’s Restaurant.

The accident involved a Kia sedan and an International Dump truck. The three injured were occupants of the sedan.

Bystanders that witnessed the accident immediately went to the aid of the woman and children hurt in the car and stayed with them until emergency crews arrived.

Due to the severity of the impact and the children involved, a helicopter was standing by as emergency crews worked in case the injuries necessitated a trauma center.

As first responders were able to get the children out of the car and paramedics were able to evaluate all the occupants, the helicopter was canceled.

Two ambulances transported the injured to Firsthealth Moore Regional Hospital in what was reported as stable condition.  The driver of the dump truck was uninjured in the crash.

U.S. Highway 1 southbound was closed as emergency crews worked. Aberdeen Police were on-scene and are investigating the cause of the accident.

Responding to the scene were Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS and Aberdeen Police Department.
