One person died in a crash on Hwy 24-27 near Lizzie Jeter Lane Monday morning. Emergency crews responded around 6:15 a.m. to an accident involving a dump truck and car outside Cameron.
 
The driver of the car was found to be deceased when the first units arrived, said Frank Staples with Cypress Fire & Rescue. A passenger in the car suffered what is reported to be serious injuries and was transported by Harnett County EMS. The driver of the dump truck was uninjured.
 
According to WRAL, State Highway Patrol said the driver of the car, Marvin Matos Franco, 40, was speeding when his vehicle veered to the left and crashed into the dump truck that was traveling in the opposite direction.
 
The accident caused a diesel spill, and a Haz-mat team was called in for containment and cleanup of the spill.

Highway 24-27 was completely shut down for several hours while crews worked. Crews with the North Carolina Department of Transportation worked to divert traffic around the scene.
 
The NC Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident.
