Japonica Owens, FNP-C, ACHPN, with FirstHealth Hospice & Palliative Care, has received her Advanced Hospice and Palliative Care Certification (ACHPN) through the Hospice and Palliative Care Credentialing Center (HPCC).

The ACHPN certification was designed for experienced hospice and palliative care advanced practice registered nurses. This specialization allows registered nurses to care for patients that are dealing with end of life issues as well as helping the family of the patient.

The HPCC was incorporated in 1993 as the National Board for Certification of Hospice Nurses (NBCHN) to develop a program of certification for the specialty practice of hospice and palliative nursing. The HPCC has been affiliated with the Hospice Nurses Association (HNA), now Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association (HPNA), since its inception.

Owens states that the certification will allow her to provide assurance, comfort, and quality palliative and/or end of life care for her patients.

As part of the FirstHealth of the Carolinas network, FirstHealth Hospice & Palliative Care is a resource for the community in the areas of education, bereavement and adjustment to loss.

FirstHealth Hospice & Palliative Care is not-for-profit and is the only hospice and palliative care program associated with FirstHealth of the Carolinas, and serves patients throughout Moore, Montgomery, Hoke and Lee counties.
