Due to Hurricane Florence’s expected impact on the Fort Bragg area, the installation will operate on a reduced-manning status on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 13 and 14.

Maj. Gen. McKiernan, Acting Senior Commander for Fort Bragg and Deputy Commanding General for XVIII ABN Corps, in consultation with the Corps HQs team, are putting out the following guidance due to the dangerous driving conditions on secondary roads throughout the Fort Bragg surrounding area.

Only mission and emergency essential personnel need to report.

All service members need to contact their commanders for guidance.

Department of Army civilian personnel, both NAF and AF, designated as “Adverse Weather Personnel” will report to duty as directed by their supervisor or chain of command.  All “Non-Adverse Weather Personnel” will be given Administrative leave while Fort Bragg is directed to minimum or Emergency essential staffing only timeframes.  If you have a question on your status, check with your chain of command or supervisor for guidance.

The following Access Control Points will be closed starting Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m.: Reilly, Material Maintenance Depot, Manchester, Butner and Yadkin.

The following ACPs will be open during their normal hours: All American, Randolph, Knox, Longstreet, Simmons Army Airfield and Linden Oaks.

Fort Bragg Schools will release students at their normal Wednesday’s release time. All Fort Bragg DODEA schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 13 and 14.  Parents with questions should contact their children’s school for further information.

Commissary, Shopette, and Post Exchanges will be open until Thursday afternoon, exact closing times will be posted Wednesday by noon.

A Hurricane Watch is in effect for coastal areas from South Carolina to the North Carolina/Virginia border. Life-threatening storm surge is now highly likely along portions of the coastlines of South Carolina and North Carolina and significant flooding is likely over the eastern portions of North Carolina from late this week into early next week.

Florence is expected to make landfall along the North Carolina coast on Friday. Once inland, Florence will weaken rapidly, slow down, and move towards the Fort Bragg area by Saturday afternoon or early evening.  According to the latest National Hurricane Center bulletin, the closest approach the center will be to Fort Bragg is about 5 miles at that time.

For the Fort Bragg area, under current track guidance, 35 mph winds are possible beginning just after midnight Wednesday night/Thursday morning through Saturday evening with the strongest winds (near 50mph) occurring between 1000L and 1400L Friday afternoon.

Initial rainfall totals at Fort Bragg are 4″ to 8″ inches through Monday.

Given the size and intensity of the storm, most preparatory actions should strive to be complete by Thursday morning ahead of landfall.
