US military guns lost stolen from North Carolina bases

The Home of the Airborne and Special Operations Forces will welcome a new garrison command sergeant major in an assumption of responsibility ceremony scheduled for 9 a.m.Friday, Aug. 3.

Command Sgt. Maj. William D. Lohmeyer will assume responsibility of Fort Bragg as the Fort Bragg Garrison Command Sergeant Major in a ceremony to be held at the Main Post Flag Pole.

Lohmeyer, a native of Louisville, Kentucky, enlisted in the United States Army in 1991 as a 13B Cannon Crewmember. He completed One Station Unit Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

During his career, Lohmeyer has served in every position of a Howitzer crew, from Canoneer to Gunner. He has also served as Section Chief and Gunnery Sergeant. In 1999, Lohmeyer completed Drill Sergeant School and was assigned as a Drill Sergeant at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He has deployed multiple times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Recently, he served as the Garrison Command Sergeant Major for Fort Rucker, Alabama, from 2014 to 2016, the I Corps Fires Sergeant Major, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, from 2016 to 2017 and most recently as the Talent Manager for 13/14 series sergeants major at U.S. Army Human Resources Command, Fort Knox, Kentucky. 

Lohmeyer’s awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Meritorious Service Medal with four Oak Leave Clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Achievement Medal with eight Oak Leaf Clusters, Iraq Campaign Medal with three Combat Stars, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 5, Combat Action Badge, Air Assault Badge, and the Drill Sergeant Identification Badge. Command Sgt. Maj. Lohmeyer has also been inducted into the Honorable Orders of Saint Barbara and Saint Michael.
