George Bethune Wright, age 89, of Aberdeen, passed away after having been in a nursing home for approximately six years on Friday, March 22, 2019 at Pinehurst Health and Rehab.

A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at 2:00 p.m at Bethesda Presbyterian Church Cemetery in the family plot with full Military Honors.

George was born in Raeford, North Carolina on July 13, 1929 to Walter Hall and Nellie Mae McInnis Wright. He entered the Marines when he was seventeen years old and had his parents sign for him in order to enlist. After serving two years, he then reenlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served eighteen years. Upon completing twenty years of service he returned to his hometown of Aberdeen, N.C.  George then decided to finish high school in Aberdeen and also completed two years of college at Sandhills Community College.  He then worked as an airplane mechanic at the Moore County Airport until he retired to take care of his mother in a home he had built while in the service. George provided for our mother all the time he was in the service. However, she worked at different jobs taking care of the family until they were grown.

He is survived by his brothers, Walter Hall Wright, Jr. (Carol) of Aberdeen and Robert “Bob” Wright (Carol) and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Hall and Nellie Mae McInnis Wright and a sister, Martha Bowers.
