An animal cruelty investigation landed Gretel at the Moore County Animal Services, and the individuals who were responsible for the dog’s condition were arrested, according to information from the Moore County Sheriff’s Office.

When deputies found the pit bull mix, she weighed only 27 pounds. The staff at Animal Services nursed Gretel back to health, and she is now a healthy 45 pounds.

“This highlights the importance of sworn deputies investigating animal cases and having the right caring staff,” said Sheriff Neil Godfrey.

After giving Gretel a clean bill of health, she is now going home to a new loving family.

“The Gretel investigation, while heartbreaking, has a happy ending thanks to Moore County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services personnel and Mrs. Marnisha and her daughter,” said Godfrey.
