A Hoke County teacher was arrested after reportedly instigating a fight between two students and allowing the students to fight in the classroom.  The fight took place on May 31 at East Hoke Middle School. 

During the investigation of the fight, the teacher’s role in the fight came to light. After investigators met with the Hoke County District Attorney’s Office,  De’Shawn Macon was charged with two counts of child abuse, two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, and one count of disorderly conduct, according to a news release from the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office.  All charges are misdemeanors.

Macon teaches sixth grade English Language Arts (ELA).

Macon was taken into custody without incident Friday. Macon was brought before magistrate where he received a $1,000 secured bond.
