Just before 1 p.m. Wednesday, firefighter were paged to a house fire in Queens Cove in Whispering Pines. When firefighters arrived, they found a two story home with smoke and fire in the attic area of the residence.

“On arrival, we found fire through the roof and were hampered by fairly high winds,” said Frank Staples with Cypress Pointe Fire Department.

No one was currently living in the home. The house had just been sold, and a contractor was currently working inside the home when the flames erupted after he hit an electrical wire while using his power saw.

The contractor escaped from the fire with minor injuries to his hand.

Firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire, but the home suffered extensive damage to the second story and roof.  Due to the size of the structure, multiple fire stations were called to battle the blaze.

Responding to the scene were units from Whispering Pines, Cypress Pointe, Pinehurst, Southern Pines, and Carthage.  Also on-scene were Moore County EMS, Public Safety, and Moore County Sheriff’s Department.
