Multiple fire departments responded to a residential structure fire on Sandborn Street in Aberdeen Sunday afternoon.

The fire was called in by neighbors who spotted the blaze coming from the residence. The first fire units on the scene reported smoke and flames showing from the front of the residence. The fire appeared to originate in the living room of the residence and there was extensive damage to this area of the home. The owner of the home arrived on the scene while firefighters were diligently working to put the fire out. 

Firefighters from five departments responded to the fire including an Air Truck from Seven Lakes with the job of refilling the air tanks for the firefighters.  Responding to the fire were Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Pinebluff Fire & Rescue, Pinehurst Fire Department, Southern Pines Fire Department, Seven Lakes Fire Department, and the Aberdeen Police Department.

No one was injured; however, two cats perished in the fire, and one cat is missing.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
