Scott Huffman says,  “When I decided to run for Congress, I wanted as much transparency as  possible. Voters need to know who they are voting for.”

Huffman is currently running for US Representative for North Carolina District 8, which includes Moore County.

Huffman for Congress has disclosed over the course of the campaign an IRS lien in the amount of $11,000.

In 2009, an argument with a partner holding a minority interest in Huffman’s business led to a drawn out legal battle for control of his business, Charlotte Internet.  Like any small business owner,  Huffman fought to protect the business he spent years building.

In the end, after spending nearly $100,000 in legal fees, Huffman settled out of court and reclaimed 100% ownership of his business. Huffman said the huge legal bills placed him in a hole he spent years digging out of. Part of that included falling behind with the IRS, which placed a lien. Huffman said he stepped up, arranged a payment plan with them and has been  making the agreed upon payments, and will soon have the matter behind him.

“I and my campaign have been totally transparent in this matter. These  are very real struggles all small business owners face from time to time,” Huffman said. “My commitment to create jobs and opportunity in the 8th congressional district is demonstrated by my small business entrepreneurship.”

Huffman spoke about his IRS lien at a local town hall event recently by saying, “We all have a past.  You can’t live in today’s world without having gone through trials and tribulations.  But, it’s how you handle it; it’s how you handle the situation.  And, that’s why I want this campaign to  be transparent.  When you elect me to Congress, I’ll continue to be  transparent.  My friends and neighbors deserve no less.”

Huffman is a Democrat.
