Sam Macinta, a registered nurse who has spent the past four years as weekend nursing supervisor, was recently promoted to Director of Nursing for The Health Center at St. Joseph of the Pines.

“Sam plans to cultivate a culture within our nursing department that consistently provides optimal outcomes for our residents while recognizing the hard work of those who provide this care,” said Robert Dickson, vice president of health services for St. Joseph of the Pines.

Macinta said the new position “is both exciting and challenging.”

“If you are going to lead, you must first seek to serve those you are leading,” he said. “Here, that means ensuring our nursing staff has the proper information, tools and resources they need to accomplish the difficult tasks set before them each day.

“Only when those things are maintained in proper order can our residents be cared for as they deserve.”

Macinta, who has almost 15 years of experience in the health care industry, completed the Licensed Practical Nurse program at Sandhills Community College in 2008 and earned an Associate Degree in Nursing there in 2013.Prior to entering health care, he worked in the hospitality and service industries.

“Communication is key,” he said. “Not only nurse to nurse, but from staff in every department. I want input from everyone on how we can improve our services and provide the best possible care to our residents.”

Dickson noted that Macinta “recognizes the magnitude of responsibility” that comes with the promotion.

“Sam is also excited for this new opportunity and challenge,” Dickson said. “I have no doubt that he will succeed, because throughout the entirety of his professional career the common thread driving Sam’s ambition has always been serving others.”

St. Joseph of the Pines is an aging services network offering a full continuum of retirement housing, health care and community-based services for older adults as well as community outreach to those in need.
