A Southern Pines man was arrested early Saturday morning when the Southern Pines Police observed the suspect on South Mechanic Street who had an outstanding arrest warrant.

As the police approached Jaylen Malik Taylor, 21, the suspect fled into a nearby apartment, according to a news release by the Southern Pines Police Department.  The police apprehended Taylor and found in his possession a loaded stolen semi-automatic pistol, 3.8 grams of cocaine, and a digital scale.

“Taylor has a prior felony conviction which prohibits him from possessing a firearm, an offense punishable in both state and federal court,” said the police department.

Taylor was charged with carrying a concealed firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a stolen firearm, felony possession of cocaine, breaking and/or entering, larceny after breaking and/or entering, assault by pointing a gun and obtaining property by false pretenses.

The suspect’s bond was set for $25,000. Taylor has  a October 23 court date and is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
