A man is in serious condition after crashing into the back of a truck Friday.  The accident happened on U.S. 1 bypass at Crains Creek Road in Vass just before 9 p.m.

According to authorities, the truck pulled out from Crains Creek Road and lost power. As the truck driver tried to re-start the engine, the Durango slammed into the back of it.

“We found an elderly gentleman had run into the back of a truck at the intersection with heavy damage to the front of the car and the rear axle of the truck sheared from its mounts,” said Frank Staples with Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue. “The Southbound lane was closed down, and traffic was diverted onto old U.S. 1 while we were extricating and clearing the road.”
