A man was rescued from a pond drain pipe Saturday afternoon after getting his leg sucked into the pipe.

The Aberdeen man was clearing debris away from his drain pipe to clear the clogged drain. He waded into the pond and used his foot to push down on debris in the pipe when the debris suddenly gave away, and the suction pressure from the water flow sucked his leg into the pipe trapping him in the pond.

The first fire fighters on the scene went into the water and helped to keep the man from further injury while trying to free his leg. After a few minutes, he was freed and placed into a boat and brought to shore to an awaiting EMS crew. The man was examined by paramedics but did not require transportation to the hospital.

Responding to the scene were Pinehurst Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Moore County Public Safety, Pinehurst Police, and Moore County Sheriff’s Department.
