NC Zoo to drop requirement for reservations July 1

The North Carolina Zoo will temporary close after an employee was fatally injured in a workplace accident on Thursday.

The accident did not involve any animals, according to Zoo officials.

An arborist fell 20-30 feet from a tree around 8 a.m. while engaged in an aerial rescue drill. The employee died on the scene.

The Africa section is closed, and the entire park will closed at 2 p.m. Thursday while investigators work.

The zoo expressed their sympathies on their website.

“The entire Zoo community is deeply saddened by this loss and our thoughts and sympathies are with the family of our team member,” said the zoo.
