Barbara Jewel Brown passed away Christmas Day at her home in Lakeview.

She was preceded in death by her mother Jewel Church McInnis. She is survived by her husband Joshua Brown and her children Nicholas and Emma Brown of the home, her sister, Patsy Cannon of Huddleston, VA, her stepfather, William McInnis of Charlotte, NC, her father, Mack Cannon of High Point, NC, and her stepmother Ruth Cannon of High Point, NC.

Barbara was a graduate of T. Wingate Andrews High School in High Point. She received her Registered Nursing degree from Guilford Technical Community College.

During her career as a nurse, she was an ICU nurse at High Point Memorial Hospital and later at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst and as a Hospice nurse in Southern Pines. She was presented the Great 100 Nursing Award by Governor James Hunt. She was also a frequent volunteer at the Vass-Lakeview Elementary School where her children attended.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 AM Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines with Rev. Mike Dubbs officiating. The family will receive friends before the service from 10-11 AM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Vass-Lakeview Elementary School, 141 James St., Vass, NC 28394.
