Bethel Ileen Nelson, 91, of Pinehurst, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2019. Beth was a 29-year resident of Moore County and a world traveler.

Beth was born April 27th, 1927 in Fullerton, California to the late Carl and Lefa Erdman. She is survived by her nephew Richard Andrew of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, her good friend and musical partner Joe Thomas, and her fluffy companion Candy.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Ross O. Nelson (2000), her sister Esther N. Andrew of Warren, Indiana, her nephew Donald Andrew of Noblesville, Indiana, and her loving West Highland Terrier Duffie.
Beth enjoyed world traveling and trying new things. After Ross retired, they started a Kiwi farm in California, along with many other adventures in retirement.

Beth and Ross moved to Whispering Pines in 1990 from California and were long time members of the Country Club of Whispering Pines, and Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church.

Beth loved music and was an accomplished pianist. Beginning in 2001, Beth and Joe Thomas visited regularly (4 times a month) many Moore County nursing and rehab facilities. With Beth playing piano/keyboard and Joe singing, for 12 years they entertained thousands with songs and music from their generation. They lifted the spirits of many folks that really needed it.

Beth also loved cars, especially fast ones. As a member BATS (British Auto Touring Society), she went on many excursions with her baby, a 1976 Triumph TR6, and could often been seen tooling around Whispering Pines, Southern Pines and Pinehurst in her white Mustang with the black racing stripe down the middle, well into her 80’s.

Beth had many wonderful friends and they will miss her dearly. Beth was laid to rest alongside her family in Noblesville, Indiana in a private family gathering.
