David Godwin Crockett, 73, of Lakeview, NC passed away Saturday October 27, 2018 at Quail Haven Retirement Village.
He was born October 8, 1945 in Rocky Mount, NC to the late Rebecca and Carroll “Bud” Crockett.
David was an Eagle Scout and went on to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a Morehead Scholar. He graduated with his undergraduate degree in 1967 and went on to earn his Juris Doctorate degree with the class of 1970. While he attended UNC, David was a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity. He went on to found the law firm Crockett, Oldham, Pope, and Donadio in Southern Pines, NC. David was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, sports, and admiring wildlife and nature. He was a huge fan of the UNC Tarheels and the Boston Red Sox. David could be considered a “Scholar of Life” who loved to continue his education by reading books and learning new information. He will be remembered as an honest, caring, and humble man.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Katharine “Jeanne” Frye Crockett of Lakeview, NC; three daughters Barbara Elizabeth Wood Harris (Jeff) of Durham, NC; Elizabeth Anne Crockett Henderson (Carl) of Swansboro, NC, and Laura Lee Crockett of Southern Pines, NC; a sister Charlotte Ann Crockett Hardenbergh (Frank); five grandchildren Caroline Knight Henderson, John Crockett Henderson, Annabelle Lear Henderson, James David Harris, Ainsley Elizabeth Harris.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 PM on Saturday November 3 at Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines. A funeral service will be held on Sunday November 4 at 2PM at First Baptist Church of Southern Pines with Dr. David Helms officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
