Dean B. Holzgraf, age 99, passed away peacefully at FirsthHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst on January 5, 2019.

He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was born to Grace and Wesley Holzgraf on November 13th, 1919 in Prosser, WA on an apple ranch. He and his family soon move to Long Beach, CA. He graduated from UCBerkeley in chemistry and worked most of his career in the nuclear field in Tennessee, Idaho, and New Jersey. He started on the Manhattan project and finished as Director of Nuclear operations for Union Carbide making medical radiosotopes. He loved to golf and shot his age every once in a while. He loved to garden and was always trying new things. He also got hooked on bird watching and maintained nesting for blue birds.

He has left behind his wife of 73 years, Carolyn Holzgraf, sons Bob Holzgraf and Jim Holzgraf, grandchildren Chris Holzgraf, Jamie Holzgraf, Sarah Holzgraf and Julie Holzgraf and finally great-grandchildren, Sasha 5, Max 5, and Leif 4 months. He was preceded by death of his third son, Tom Holzgraf and two brothers Perry and Bill.

Memorial service will be at Belle Meade Chapel, Southern Pines on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 2:00-4:00 p.m.
