Donald Devone Thomas, Sr. age 80 of Aberdeen passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.

Donald was born on February 20, 1939 in Randolph Co., NC to the late Carlton Lawrence Thomas and Sarah Inez Kellar Thomas.  He was a veteran of his country and served in the U.S. Army Reserves.  Donald retired from Proctor-Silex with over 20 years of service. He was a member of Ashely Heights Baptist Church in Aberdeen, NC.  Donald was a very social person with a witty sense of humor who enjoyed being with people, laughter and good conversation.  He formerly owned and managed Don’s Mobile Home Park which provided low income housing to many throughout the years.  Donald was a member of Peppertree Ocean Club in Myrtle Beach and enjoyed his yearly beach week with friends from the club. He was a humble man and always had a kind word for others.

He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Joann Riley of Coral Springs, FL and his son, Donald D. Thomas, Jr. of Davie, FL; a sister, Brenda Spencer and husband Metrah of Albermarle, NC and a sister, Linda Schuchard and husband Dave of Aberdeen, NC and a brother-in-law, Jack Huff of Aberdeen, NC. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren: Casey Hernandez, Cory English and Gabrielle Wigginton and 5 great-grandsons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Huff and a brother, Carlton Thomas, Jr.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Ashley Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Needham officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Friday, March 15, 2019 from 6-8 p.m. at Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines.
