Fletcher Ray Garner Sr., age 75 of Pinebluff passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2018 at 5:37 a.m. at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Fletcher was born on January 17, 1943 in Moore County, NC to the late James Fletcher Garner and Kathleen Maness Garner.
He was a veteran of his country and served in the United States Army.
Many will remember Fletcher for his dedication and love for the NC Food Bank. Fletcher began this selfless service to his community with the Pinebluff Lions Club, serving as a past president and volunteering many years with local food drives and providing to the less fortunate. He worked and volunteered many years and countless hours with the NC Food Bank. Fletcher was dedicated at everything he sat out to do and as many as 12-15 families depended on his support weekly to help make ends meet with groceries and food. He made his last food delivery to a family in need on the day he passed, doing what he enjoyed most until his last day. Fletcher was known for going without for himself to help others meet their needs. Many may remember him for making sure they received their Raleigh and Charlotte newspapers that he delivered for over 18 years to many members of the community. Fletcher worked for many years at McDonald Brothers Lumber and later retired from Builders First Source.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Doris Garner of Pinebluff. He is also survived by five sons: Keith A. Blue and (Mark Gay) of Clayton; Vernon Garner of Baltimore, MD; Jonathan Garner of Raleigh; Brian Garner of Raleigh; and Fletcher Ray Garner, Jr. of Chapel Hill; two stepsons, Larry and Gary Perhealth of Aberdeen; two stepdaughters: Cindy Groves (Chris) of Dunn, and Janeca Adkins of Indiana. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren and many other friends and families who will cherish his memories.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 12 noon at Boles Funeral Home Chapel in Southern Pines. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Those who are attending the memorial service are asked to bring non-perishable food items and place in the donation boxes at the memorial service as a tribute to the legacy he leaves behind. Donations will be given to the NC Food Bank. Those unable to attend, may make a memorial contribution to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC at Sandhills, 195 Sandy Ave., Southern Pines, NC 28387.
