George Henry “Harry” Caperton, 82, Of Pinewild, Pinehurst, passed away on Monday, December 31st.

The family will hold a private celebration of his life at a later date.

The family reflects “It is with great sadness that we share with the passing of our husband/father, Harry Caperton. He was the greatest man we have ever known and will be sorely missed. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and his love of America made him a true patriot.” Born in Beckley, WV, he was the son of the Erskine and Blanche Caudill Caperton. He attended Lees- McRae and Concord Colleges, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in psychology. After college, he served in the U.S. Army before starting his career in Washington, D.C. Harry retired in 1994 after 30 years of service with the Department of Defense; a career that took him from D.C. to Japan, Washington State and England before returning home. He was an Eagle Scout, Troop Leader and a life-long supporter of the Boy Scouts of America. He moved to Pinehurst in February of 1999 and is a member of Pinewild CC. He was a 16 year employee of Pinehurst Resort, where he was a well loved ranger and starter.

Harry was the loving husband of Sue Caperton for 57 wonderful years. He is survived by their children: Laura Caperton, husband Tim Mauk, Jim Caperton, wife Catherine Foley – Caperton, and Carol Wenck, husband Steve. He was the brother of Erskine, Bill and Susanna Caperton. He is also survived by his five grandchildren: Michael, Lacey, Jaime, Rylee and Jensa.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Harry’s memory may be made to the FirstHealth Hospice & Pallative Care or a charity of one’s choice.

Services are entrusted to Boles Funeral Home of Pinehurst.
