George Russell Anderson, 85, of Aberdeen, passed peacefully Friday April 12 at his home.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 16th at the Ives Memorial Baptist Church, 365 E. Philadelphia Ave. Pinebluff, with the Rev. Virgil Dwyer officiating.  Burial will follow at the Bethesda Cemetery, Aberdeen. The family invites friends to attend a meal at the church prior to the service from 12:30 – 1:30.  The family will receive friends at the Boles Funeral Home, 425 W. Pennsylvania Ave, Southern Pines, on Monday, April 15th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.

George was born in Gadsden, AL on February 14th, 1934.  After his high school graduation he entered the military, serving in the U.S. Navy.  Following an honorable discharge, George attended Auburn University where he earned his Bachelors’ Degree in Engineering.  It was during this time that he met Audrey Stone, whom he married on March 18, 1956. George had worked as a civil engineer for the Army Corp of Engineers, retiring in 1992 at Ft. Bragg.  George enjoyed working with his hands; building, creating and working on home projects. In addition to being a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he was a dedicated Christian man, who loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and worked tirelessly to spread the love of Jesus to others. George had been very involved with the 1st Baptist Church in Aberdeen, where he taught Sunday school and had even lead prayers to the members of the Carolina House.

He was preceded in death by his wife Audrey Stone Anderson, two daughters, Georgia Anderson Benson in 2004, Kelly Dawn Anderson in 1981, a granddaughter, Jennifer Lindsey Benson in 2009 and his sister Louise Robinson.

George is survived by his children: Wendy R. Anderson of Aberdeen, Terry George Anderson and his wife Gabrielle Santos Anderson of Seven Lakes, Mari A. Spry and her husband L.E. Spry of Elizabeth City, NC, his brother Robert of AL, his grandchildren: Jarrod Anderson, Kelly Smith Gold, Shawn Chavis, Shannon Chavis, Dylan Spry, Jaxon Spry, Alex Anderson, Victor Santos, Amy Santos, Joe Santos and 7 great grandchildren.
