Harold Lawrence Sandall, 83 of Pinehurst NC, passed on Saturday December 15, 2018.

Larry was born on July 31, 1935 in Norfolk, Nebraska to Reverend Harold Cornelius Sandall and Evelyn Joy (Eoff) Sandall. Although he moved to Arlington, Virginia from Nebraska many decades ago, his parsonage life there gave many rich experiences and a perspective of life which is indebted to ancestors and friends from the prairie. Larry’s parents welcomed visiting missionaries, teachers and guests whobrought the outside world to his home.

After graduating from Northeast High School in Lincoln, NE, Larry attended Nebraska Wesleyan University and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and History. He served as President of Theta Chi Gamma Phi Chapter where he made many lifetime friends and pinned his future wife Myrna Marie Sandvall.

An ardent advocate of history and foreign affairs, Larry received his Master’s Degree at Johns Hopkins’ School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). He later earned a Master’s Degree in Naval Warfare, Strategy, Management & Operations at the US Naval War College in Newport, RI.

During his career at the Central Intelligence Agency he served for over 25 years in the 24-hour Communications Center. He received the Career Intelligence Medal for Exceptional Achievement in 1994.

Larry is survived by his wife of 60 years, Myrna Marie Sandall, a sister Jean Ingrid (Bruce) Hutchings, a son Scott (Joan) Sandall and a daughter Kari (Rhett) Vereen; five granddaughters Cynthia Sandall, Rebecca (Keehan) White, Devon Sandall, Megan (William) Turbeville and Christine Vereen; three great grandchildren, Tannon Turbeville, Trenton Turbeville and Ellie Grace Turbeville; two nephews Mark (Stacey Skold) Hutchings and Steve (Karen Rossetto) Hutchings.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association (heart.org ) or Moore County Concert Band (MooreCountyConcertBand.org ).
