Hayes Landis Harbour, 92, of Cameron, NC, passed away at home surrounded by family.

He leaves his wife of 70 years, Doris Jean (Measamer); children, Jane (Billy) Ethridge, grandchildren Jennifer, Clark; David (Tracy) Harbour, grandchildren Keely, Kerri, great-grandson, Thomas David; Anne Harbour-Tonn (Kevin), grandchildren Cameron, Cristina; Steven (Caryn) Harbour, grandchildren Macy, Alison; brothers Earl (Juanita) Harbour, and William (Pat) Harbour. He was preceded in death by his brother Kent (Dot) Harbour.

The son of Mallory and Emma Levora (Holyfield) Harbour, Hayes was born in Lee County, raised in Cameron, and was a lifelong resident of Moore County. He served in the Army during WWII and returned to join his father in the family appliance business. Hayes and Doris Jean were married in 1948, and together they raised their four children while building a business as the “Lonely Maytag Man” appliance sales and service, a thriving coin-laundry, and running a longleaf pine tree farm.

Hayes was a lover of nature, camping, flowers, antique clocks, and tending to his garden and pine trees. He was an avid reader, loved music, and enjoyed fishing at his vacation home on Lake Tillery. As a longtime member of Cameron Presbyterian Church, he served as Deacon and Elder.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, June 16, 2019, 2:00 p.m. at Cameron Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kathryn Dudley officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall. A private burial will be held with Military Honors.
