On Saturday, March 16th, John R. While passed away at age 83 after a long illness.
John was born on Sept 2, 1935 in Hanna, Wyoming to Jack and Hilda While. On Nov, 26th, 1955, he married Alice Marie Kirk. They raised three sons, Tony, Tim and Todd. Both John’s career and life were centered around serving his country and community. Immediately after graduating High School he moved from Wyoming to Washington DC to join the FBI. He also signed up for the Marine Corps and served as a reservist for 8 years. He then transitioned from the FBI to the DC Police Department. Over the course of that career, he was awarded two of the three highest awards they can bestow, being honored for both valor and merit. Living near DC, he became a lifelong Redskin fan, holding season tickets for 41 years. Once retired from the police force, he became involved in his local community. He became an EMT and volunteered with the Maryland City Fire Department. When not serving there, he could be found on the sidelines of almost any Maryland City sporting event, ready to help out in any way he could. He also worked with special needs children at a local school.
In 1998, he and his wife Alice retired to North Carolina, where he joined the Lions Club and would eventually serve as its President.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Alice, his wife of 56 years, his brother Jim and Sister in Law Jacque.
He is survived by three sons, Tony, Tim and Todd, and three grandchildren, Brandon, Mallory and Robert.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 23rd from 3:00 to 5:00 at Boles Funeral Home, Seven Lakes, NC. The Memorial Service will be Sunday, March 24th, at 2:00 at Chapel in the Pines, also in Seven Lakes.
