Joseph Paul Raguso, 77 of Southern Pines, passed on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at St. Joseph of the Pines Nursing in Southern Pines.
A Funeral Mass will be held 2PM Saturday, May 25th at the Belle Meade Chapel in Southern Pines with Father Jonathan Woodhall officiating. Rite of Committal will follow in the Pinelawn Memorial Park in Southern Pines.
Mr. Raguso was born May 31, 1941 in Manhattan, NY to the late Joseph J. Raguso and Tina Monzeglio Raguso. He attended and graduated from the FBI Academy later serving as Assistant Chief for the New York City Police Department for 38 years retiring from the Brooklyn South Division. He retired in May of 2000 and moved to Pinehurst where he played golf and learned to fly and acquired his pilot’s license. He was a devoted husband, and father who worked hard and was highly accomplished, well regarded, and respected highly by all who knew him. He ran and completed 32 marathons all over the country and volunteered his time refereeing high school football as well as the US Open Championship.
He is survived by his wife of 55years, Mary Schaefer Raguso. A son, Joseph Anthony Raguso of San Francisco, CA; a daughter, Denine Marie Raguso Goodwin of West End, NC; two brothers, Robert and John Raguso; three grand-daughters, Miranda Dean Goodwin, Madison Avery Goodwin, Morgan Nicole Goodwin.
