Juanita Henderson Fields, 95, a longtime resident of Southern Pines, N.C., died May 3, 2019 at Quail Haven Healthcare Center of Pinehurst. Mrs. Fields was born June 26, 1923 in Jackson Springs, N.C., and was the daughter of the late B.L. Henderson and Daisy Haywood Henderson.
Graveside service will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Pinelawn Memorial Park, Southern Pines, NC, officiated by Dr. David Helms.
She was predeceased by her husband, William Eugene Fields; siblings Robert Henderson and Blyn Purvis; grandson Patrick Shane Carter; and sons-in-law Robert H. Broyles and Bill Carter.
Mrs. Fields graduated from West End High School and married Gene Fields on March 3, 1944. She began working for The Citizens Bank and Trust in Southern Pines in the 1950s and retired as head teller from what became First Union after 36 years. Following her retirement from the bank, she worked as a salesperson for Belk and Carolyn’s in Southern Pines.
A member of First Baptist Church in Southern Pines, Mrs. Fields volunteered at St. Joseph of the Pines and Sandhills/Moore Coalition for Human Care. She enjoyed gardening, watching televised golf, and visiting her family.
Survivors include daughters: Dianne Fields Broyles of Oklahoma City and Sadie Fields Carter of High Point; son: William H. (Bill) Fields of Fairfield, Conn., grandchildren: David Broyles and wife K.C. of Oklahoma City, Jim Broyles of Philadelphia, and John Carter of High Point; three nephews and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Powell Funeral Home, Southern Pines, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sandhills/Moore Coalition for Human Care or to the charity of your choice.
