Marion Louise (Mary Lou) Kern Forrest, 90, of Southern Pines, NC passed away on December 9, 2018.

Mrs. Forrest was born on June 17, 1928 to the late Bertram and Mildred Otis Kern.  She leaves behind David, a devoted husband of 66 years, 2 daughters – Anne Forrest McKell (and husband James) and Wende Forrest Powell (and husband William), 4 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and 5 nieces and nephews.

Moving often, due to her father’s military career, Mary Lou attended the Women’s College of Duke University and graduated with honors in Elementary Education.  Her teaching career spanned over 20 years in NY, PA, and NC.

Before moving to Southern Pines in 1975, Mary Lou lived in the Philadelphia area for over 30 years.  She was active in various volunteer, civic and social organizations – including the Girl Scouts and Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumnae Association.

An avid bridge player, Mary Lou and her husband David were Life Masters, who played in tournaments along the East Coast and overseas.  She organized and played in numerous round-robin bridge tournaments each year.  Mary Lou volunteered at the Penick Village Library for many years.  Her other hobbies included cruising, golfing, knitting, crafting, and quilting.

She was a long-time member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, as well as a dedicated worker at the Emmanuel Episcopal Thrift Shop.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 P.M. on Sunday afternoon, January 20, 2019 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to the Penick Village Foundation, 500 E. Rhode Island Ave, Southern Pines, NC 28387
