Nancy Lynn Norland, 72, died on Wednesday, October 9th at home surrounded by her sisters Sandy and Susan, son Michael, daughter-in-law Victoria, and devoted husband of 40 years, Richard.

Born on July 8th, 1947 to Don and Ruth Shaw, Nancy was the first of the family’s three girls. She was raised in Princeton, New Jersey and later moved to Plainsboro, then to Titusville, New Jersey, enjoying life overlooking the Delaware River. Most recently Nancy moved to Pinehurst, North Carolina, where she appreciated lakeside sunsets and pontoon boat rides.

Nancy was social, entertaining friends and family frequently, and enjoyed playing tennis, golf and other group activities. She loved music, and for many years performed with a ladies A cappella barbershop chorus called Sweet Adelines.

For 18 years, Nancy progressed steadily throughout her career as a manager of personnel and training programs at IBM. Her organizational and leadership skills resulted in numerous awards, including the prestigious Division President’s Award the same year her son was born.

A memorial service will be held 11am Monday, October 14th at The Village Chapel in Pinehurst. Gifts in memory of Nancy may be made to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. 1500 Rosecrans Avenue, Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266 (www.pancan.org ).
