Phil E. Moore of Pinehurst passed away Friday, March 8, 2019 at the age of 88.

Phil was born in Stockwell, Indiana in 1930, the son of Charles Moore, a Methodist minister, and Ida Fickle.  Phil spent his childhood in Indiana, on the family homestead near Lewistown, Montana, and in Eyota, Minnesota, where he graduated from high school in 1949. He married Nancy Von Wald in 1951 and together they raised three children, Marcia, David, and Patricia. Phil enlisted in the Air Force in 1951 and proudly served in Korea. Afterwards, Phil enrolled at Iowa State University earning a bachelor’s degree in Physics. He had a distinguished career as a computer programmer and executive, first for Union Carbide and later for Control Data Corporation, working in New York, Ohio, Michigan, and Minnesota. In his 50’s, Phil quit the corporate world and started his own successful data services business in Minnesota which he ran until his retirement in 2001, moving to Pinehurst shortly thereafter.

Phil loved golf, sports, especially college basketball (Go Blue Devils!), surfing YouTube, boogie-woogie piano music, DQ Turtle Pecan Cluster Blizzards, the Big Bang Theory, and watching his children and grandchildren grow up. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Nancy, three children, seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. He was a good and generous man who will be missed by all who knew him.

A family celebration of his life will be held at a date yet to be determined. Any memorial gifts may be sent to your favorite charity.
