Shonquell Da’vare Barrett, also known as “Omelly” by his peers, was born August 22, 1995. He gained his wings on Friday, June 29, 2018.

Shonquell was a loving and caring kid growing up. He always has a smile on his face that would brighten a room and fill your heart.  He played basketball at Southern Middle School, Pinecrest High School, American Athletic Union (AAU), and Southern Pines Parks and Recreation. He graduated from Pinecrest High School in Southern Pines, North Carolina in 2013. He was also named “Student of the Year” and awarded a scholarship from the Boys and Girls Club in 2013. Shonquelle attended Sandhills Community College, where he majored in Culinary Arts. He was employed at Fresh Market and Mid Pines Inn and Golf Club, where he displayed exceptional leadership. 

Shonquell was a blessing to many he encountered and an extraordinary gift to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed and will forever remain in our hearts. He leaves to cherish his memory: his mother; Charlene Ross of Aberdeen, North Carolina, his father; Ulysses Barrett, III of Addor, North Carolina, one sister; Symphanie Barrett of Aberdeen, North Carolina, his grandparents; Mayor Ulysses Barrett, Jr. and Diane Barrett of Taylortown, North Carolina, Charles and Ledell Ross  of Aberdeen, North Carolina, and Georgia Ross of Southern Pines, North Carolina, one special friend; Tiffany Talbert, and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Family visitation will be held 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Jones and Little Funeral Home, Aberdeen, NC. Funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Southern Pines Primary School Auditorium, Southern Pines, NC, with Pastor Gentry Winfield officiating. Burial will follow at Academy Heights Cemetery in Taylortown, NC.
