Freida Jacquelyn Willis Monroe, age 86, died Monday, February 12, 2018 at Kingswood Nursing Center in Aberdeen, NC.

A funeral service will be held at Manly Presbyterian Church, (544 Yadkin Road, Southern Pines, NC) at 1:00 PM on Thursday, February 15, 2018 with the Reverend Ronald Holmes officiating.  Burial to follow at Bethesda Cemetery,  Aberdeen, NC.

Jackie Monroe was born in Laurinburg, NC on January 2, 1932 to the late Lula Beatrice and  Darius Merton Willis.  Jackie attended Aberdeen High School (Red Devils) where she excelled at basketball.  She worked at a variety of local company offices, was a nursing home activities director and for the majority of her work life, she managed the office of Monroe Builders, Inc.  Her hobbies were all family oriented; she loved boating, water skiing, basketball, badminton, camping at Lake Tillery and dancing with her husband Harold.

Jackie was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Harold Lewis Monroe and her brother “JD” Willis. 

Jacquelyn is survived by her two sisters, Dorthy Coe, Lancaster, CA; and Carol Chandler, Silver Spring, MD; her daughter, Cathey Monroe Handsel and her husband, Tim Handsel, Myrtle Beach, SC; two sons, David Monroe and Tony Monroe, Southern Pines, NC; two grandchildren, Brittany Handsel, Ellicott City, MD, and Justin Handsel and his wife Hayley Handsel, and one great-grandchild, Emma Handsel, Myrtle Beach, SC

A visitation will be held on February 15, 2018 from 12 pm to 1 pm at Manly Presbyterian Church, Southern Pines, NC.
