Mary Ann Moore passed away on January 8th, 2018, in Whispering Pines, NC. She was born on April 6th, 1924 to the late William R. Polen and Ida C. Polen in Washington Township, OH.

She grew up in Carrollton, OH, graduating from Carrolton High School in 1942. She was employed as a switchboard operator for the General Telephone Company.

Mary Ann married Thomas E. Moore of Carrollton, OH in 1949 and lived there for five years.  They moved to Canton in 1954.  She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of North Canton and employed at various boutique shops.

Tom and Mary Ann joined Shady Hollow Country Club of Massillon, OH. She won the handicap tournament in her first year. Mary Ann was involved in many social and golf events. She participated in the local garden and card clubs and was a volunteer for the Girl Scouts.

In 1983, Mary Ann moved with her husband to Whispering Pines, NC, where they became members the Whispering Pines Country Club. Tom and Mary Ann enjoyed their weekly golf league, especially their couples group. Mary Ann also looked forward to her women’s golf league, which played many courses in the Sandhills area of North Carolina. With her husband, they were active participants at dance and card clubs.  She worked at Midland Crafters for over twenty-five years until it closed, and was a volunteer at the Whispering Pines Thrift Shop as well.

Survivors are her husband Thomas E. Moore, daughter Susan LaCoursiere, both of Whispering Pines, one sister, Helen Bridge of New London, NH, her grandsons Edward Matthews of St. Paul, MN and Robert Matthews of Durham, NC, great-granddaughter Lindsey Matthews of St. Paul, MN, brother-in-law & sister-in-law Don and Nancy Duval of Kernersville, NC, and many, many nieces and nephews.  She was especially close with her nieces Barbara Marracino of North Canton, OH and Marsha Bonifant of Concord, NC.

She was preceded in death by her son, Terry L. Moore, son-in-law Joseph LaCoursiere, eight sisters, Wilma, Frances, Doris, Esma, Lois, Catherine, Margaret, and one brother, Earl.

Mary Ann left this world as she wished, peacefully in her home. 

Per her request, no service will be held. A spring celebration of her life will happen for family and close friends. Arrangements are being made at Boles Funeral Home.  Donations in her name, in lieu of flowers, are welcome to be made at the Whispering Pines Thrift Shop at 3199 Vass-Carthage Rd, Carthage, NC 28327.
