Mary E Blanchard Michna, 79, of Aberdeen passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 9th, 2018 at First Health Hospice House.

Mary was born November 11, 1938 in Racine, Wisconsin to the late Lester A. and Shirley F. Jewett Blanchard.

Mary graduated from Washington Park High school in Racine and the University of Wisconsin Lacrosse with a BS in Physical Education & Education. After graduation, she took teaching positions at numerous schools in several states eventually ending her teaching career in Rockford, Illinois.

While in Rockford, she met her friend and soulmate, Lyn Lusby. She eventually gave up her beloved home and horses and moved to Abilene, Texas. She loved animals with a passion that included many dogs, cats, and horses.

She was employed at West Texas Wholesale in Abilene and with the passing of Lyn she moved to Laurinburg, NC to work as a hog farm manager for Carroll’s Foods (Now Murphy Brown Div. of Smithfield Foods) and to be closer to her brother Roger Blanchard. She retired from Murphy Brown and began helping her brother renovate houses to resell.

She is survived by her brothers Thomas Blanchard and his wife Deanna of Aberdeen, SD, Richard Blanchard of Oregon, WI, and Roger Blanchard and wife Sandra of Aberdeen, NC. She is also survived by her nieces Stacey Blanchard, JoDee Haugrud and husband Joel, Marytha Blanchard, nephews Erik Blanchard, Kent Blanchard and wife Sherri, Joe Blanchard and wife Patti, and Daniel Blanchard and other relatives.

The family will have a private celebration of her life in Racine, Wisconsin at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Powell Funeral Home & Crematory.
