Recently, the Upper School Model United Nations team traveled to Appalachian State University for the Spring 2019 Conference.

A team of six delegates went to debate topics ranging from neo-colonialism, or the election of a new secretary general, to new theoretical and historical uses of the Mediterranean Sea.

After a hike through the beautiful Appalachian Mountains at Moses Cone Memorial Park, it was off to committee for the entire team.

In a collective six hours of debate the Model United Nations team received two awards.

Jamie Wenzel won an Outstanding Delegation award for his representation of Canada in the 4th committee of the General Assembly SPECPOL. Tim Richardson and Andrew Lewis received an Outstanding Delegation award for the defense of Israel in Alantropa.

This is the team’s third conference this year and yet again it has been a demonstration of the great oratory development and debate skills developed through project based learning conferences like this.

Team members are Ang Carr, Tim Richardson, Andrew Lewis, Jamie Wenzel, Shelby Wray and Ainara Urizarbarrena. The team advisor is Upper School History Teacher Woody Wilder.
