A 4-year-old boy from Aberdeen accidentally shot himself while staying at a Myrtle Beach hotel.
Police said Isaiah Odom was playing in a bedroom at Oceans One Resort Saturday evening when he found a gun in his mother’s purse. The parents were in the other room when they heard the gunshot.
As of Monday, the boy remained in critical condition at the area hospital, WRAL reports.
The child’s parents, Heather Lyn Odom and Jeremy Jermaine Barrett have been charged with unlawful neglect of a child.
Family members spoke on the parents behalf in court. An emotional Municipal Judge, Clifford Welsh, granted the boy’s parents to be released, so they can be with their son as he is fighting for his life.
