A.J. Beechler has won the 4A Individual State Championship today in a playoff on Pinehurst No. 6 with a 2-under round, beating out 83 others golfers from across the state. A.J., who was 3-over after the first day, shot 70 today to tie for the lead after 18, then parred the first playoff hole for the win.
This is the second year in a row that A.J. has taken this honor.
In the team results, Pinecrest placed 5th overall, while Pinecrest Junior, Symon Balbin, finished with a very respectful tie for 7th.
Beechler, a Pinecrest Senior, has earned many trophies in is his young career, including the 2016 Donald Ross Junior Champions held at the Pinehurst Resort and County Club.
