Emergency crews responded to the Moore County Airport Sunday when a plane notified air traffic controllers it would need to make an emergency landing. The pilot was concerned there was a problem with the front landing gear.

The pilot circled the airport to burn off fuel, and once emergency crews were in place along the runway, the pilot brought the plane in for a landing.  Crews immediately rushed to the plane once it was on the ground to ensure all was safe.

The pilot was uninjured and the plane appeared to be intact. The plane itself remained at the end of the runway afterward.

This is a scenario the airport and emergency officials have carefully planned for and practiced. Sunday’s response by so many departments was a perfectly executed testament to all the planning and training that go into this type of situation.

Participating in the emergency response were units from Whispering Pines, Southern Pines, Pinehurst, Aberdeen, Eastwood, Carthage, Moore County EMS, Whispering Pines Police, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, the NC Highway Patrol, and airport personnel.
