The Southern Pines Police arrested the Quality Mart armed robbery suspect Monday.

Jesse Lee Goldston, 51, of Southern Pines, is accused of robbing the Quality Mart on Old U.S. Highway 1 in Southern Pines on April 5. 

The suspect is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, said Southern Pines Police Department in a news release. 

Authorities said  Goldston went into Quality Mart twice that morning. On the second time, Goldston brandished a knife as he took cash from the register and fled on foot.

“Goldston was additionally charged with larceny from a person for a similar offense that occurred in Rockingham, which also took place on April 5,” said the release.

“The Town of Southern Pines has made a substantial investment in training our staff to perform with a certain level of expertise to solve challenging cases,” said Southern Pines Police Chief Robert Temme. “The effort and skill displayed by all that were involved in this investigation is indicative of how every member of the Southern Pines Police Department performs on a daily basis to keep our community safe.”

The department, in the news release, thanked the Federal Bureau of Investigation for their partnership in the case.

Southern Pines Police Department identified Goldston as a suspect four days after the robbery and located the suspect 13 days after being identified. 

Authorities said Goldston has a lengthy rap sheet which includes two prior habitual felon convictions and multiple robbery convictions.

Goldston was jailed under a $40,000 secured bond and is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
