A Sanford man was sentenced Friday to 15 years in federal prison for armed robbery and carjacking.

Brandon Raul Navarro, 29, pleaded guilty in December of robbing the Cameron Dollar General Store, located on N.C. 27 West, in Harnett County, on July 10, at knifepoint for 20 packs of cigarettes.

“Navarro also stole an employee’s truck by threatening her at knifepoint,” said a news release from the United States Attorney’s Office. “He fled in the truck and ultimately led law enforcement officers on a multicounty, high-speed chase that at times exceeded 100 miles per hour.  After officers made numerous attempts to stop him, Navarro finally crashed the truck, attempted to flee on foot, and was arrested.

Chief United States District Judge Terrence W. Boyle sentenced Navarro to 180 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised released.
