Town smoke testing sewer lines in parts of Aberdeen

The Town of Southern Pines announced there was a discharge of untreated wastewater on Tuesday.

Around 1,000 gallons of wastewater spilled “along the sewer easement between Warrior Woods and N.C. Hwy 22.” The town said about 750 gallons ran into Mill Creek.

“All efforts to mitigate wastewater release were taken,” said the town. “Repairs were completed and system returned to service at approximately 3:30 p.m and cleanup/sanitizing efforts were conducted. Bacteriological testing will be performed to determine levels of contamination.”

Residents should not go into Warrior Woods Lake at this time. Officials will contact Warrior Woods’ residents when “testing results become available.”

The NC Division of Water Resources has been contacted.

The public may call the Town of Southern Pines Public Works at 910-692-1983 for more information.
