Sheriff warns scam targeting residents

Moore County Sheriff’s Office released their August report Tuesday.

During the month of August,  Patrol Deputies averaged seven minutes and fifty eight seconds while responding to 3,456 calls for service. They served 354 civil and 125 criminal papers which included 14 domestic violence orders, made 78 arrests, conducted 1169 business checks and transported five mental patients.

Deputies issued 70 traffic citations: eight citations for driving with a revoked license, four for driving while impaired and 22 for speeding in excess of 15 miles per hour over the posted speed limit.

Animal Services admitted 102 dogs and 183 cats, returned 13 animals to their owners, facilitated the adoption of 25 dogs and 64 cats and conducted 147 field and 111 shelter rabies vaccinations. Deputies investigated 19 animal bite reports and responded to 53 stray-animal calls.

Criminal Investigators arrested 32 suspects totaling 58 felony and five misdemeanor charges, opened 74 investigations and recovered $13,297.00 in stolen property.

Arrests included: one for felony child abuse, three for larceny by an employee, six for breaking and entering/larceny, one for accessory after the fact, three for felony child abuse, one for firearm violations, 12 for fraud, one for drug violations and six on misdemeanor charges.

The Narcotics Division opened 19 investigations, executed three search warrants, two probation searches and arrested 20 suspects on a total of 70 drug and alcohol violations.

Narcotic Deputies seized: 2,224 grams of marijuana, one gram of cocaine, three grams of methamphetamine, four firearms and $1748 in cash, the estimated street value of all drugs seized was approximately $133,440.

Additionally, Deputies conducted 94 ABC store security checks, inspected seven ABC premise-outlets and visited 103 additional ABC premise-outlets.

The Sheriff’s Office registered three new sex offenders, updated the status of 26 registered sex offenders and is monitoring a total of 131 Moore County Registered Sex Offenders.

In August, they issued 218 pistol purchase permits, issued 64 new conceal-to-carry permits and renewed 83; totaling 8,014 Moore County citizens with conceal-to-carry permits.
