A man was shot Thursday afternoon in Aberdeen, and a suspect was taken into custody by sheriff’s deputies.

Kelvin Tre Harris, 25, from the 100 block of Longleaf Lane in Aberdeen, was arrested on the scene.

The shooting took place on Longleaf Lane,  just off Sandpit Road. The 19-year-old victim was transported by EMS to a landing zone where a medivac helicopter airlifted the victim to the UNC Trauma Center.

The victim was awake and communicating when EMS arrived on the scene.

Crime scene tape was placed around the property where the shooting occurred.

Harris has been charged by Moore County Deputies with Assault With a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury. He was also charged with Possession of a Firearm By a Felon.

Harris is already facing charges for Drug Possession with an upcoming court date of July 23rd.  He has had prior convictions for Drug Possession, Breaking & Entering, and Possession of Stolen Goods. 

Sandhills Sentinel spoke with Chief Deputy Frank Rodriguez of the Moore County Sheriff’s Department, and he confirmed the suspect was in custody, and they will give an update as the investigation continues.  Rodriguez did not release the victim’s identity.
